Beginning Weaving

This class starts with warping the loom. We will also cover plain weave, twills, figuring how much yarn to use and caring for cotton yarn. We will weave two samplers and a project of your design. We will use a four-shaft table loom so you will be able to work at home. All skills transfer to floor looms.

  • Materials: Class fee covers loom rental and materials for the first two projects. Students will purchase yarn for one project. 
 
Beginning Weaving


 

Double Weave

 

Explore double weave and learn how to weave a piece twice the width of your loom. We will also cover warping from back to front, drafting for color and weave effects and using silk yarns. We will lecture and demonstrate during class time and you will do the weaving at home. This can be done on your own loom, or you can arrange to rent a table loom from the store.

  • Prerequisite: Beginning weaving or permission from the instructor.
 
Double Weave Class

Rigid Heddle

  Rigid heddle looms are a simple and portable way to weave. This class is a great introduction to rigid heddle looms. We will cover warping the loom, plain weave structure, and several ways to get pattern using this loom. We will also look at other resources and books available to use for pattern ideas and weaving help. You will need to bring your loom to use. If you have yarns that you would like to weave with, bring them for evaluation. We will be putting a scsarf on the loom for your first project.

  • Materials: Rigid heddle loom, yarn (if you have some you would like to use.
 
Rigid Heddle Weaving

Tapestry Weaving

  Fo novice or experienced weavers, this course will explore the techniques of tapestry weaving. Students will learn various tapestry weaving. Students will learn various tapestry techniques enabling them to create their own self-designed projects.

  • Materials: Tapestry loom, beater, tapestry needles, and yarn scraps.
