Spinning Using a Handspindle

In this class you will learn the basics of spinning using a handspindle. You will learn how to spin and ply commerically prepared fibers. We will also discuss how to prepare fiber for spinning.

Spinning Using a Spinning Wheel

In this class you will learn the basics of spinning using a spinning wheel. You will learn how to spin and ply commercially prepared fibers. We will discuss how to prepare fiber for spinning.

Plying Handspun Yarns

Learn about plying on a handspindle and spinning wheel. We will cover basic plying, Andean plying, Navajo plying and cable yarns. You must already know how to spin singles.

Spinning Help

Stop by for help with your spinning projects.

  • Materials: Bring several bobbins or handspindles full of your own spun singles, empty bobbin, handspindle or spinning wheel, ball winder or nostepinne, lazy kate and niddy noddy.

 



 

Fiber Preparation

 

Six different stations will be set up with tools to prepare wool. We will include:  1) hand held combs, 2) attached combs, 3) dog combs, 4) handcards, 5) a drum carder, and 6) flick carders. You will receive instructions on how to use these tools and what type of spinning method will work with each preparation.  We will cover long draw, short draw and spinning from the fold.
You must already know how to spin.

  • Instructor: Deanna Baugh and Jill Dahle
  • Materials: Bring a spinning wheel or handspindle, Lazy Kate, and bobbins for wheel.  Several different types of wool will be provided.
